September 2026.
The first monthly market note. Every one of the 201 prices was checked against the live German asking market; none of them moved.
Across 11,779 live German listings covering 119 of the index's 201 cars, the typical carpriceindex price sits at the 33rd percentile of what dealers are asking. That gap is the price of a normal car: the index publishes a median for a good example at average mileage, while two thirds of the forecourt is low-mileage, warranted and priced above it.
Coverage
105 of 201 cars were re-checked against the live German asking market on 1 September 2026 and held their figure. 14 came back out of line and are listed below. The remaining 82 could not be read on a consistent basis, either because Germany carries fewer than ten of the car or because the trim cannot be separated from a much larger model population, and those figures are carried unchanged rather than guessed.
No price moved. A single September snapshot can confirm that a figure still describes its market, but it cannot show a month-over-month change against an August figure that was built a different way. Treating that difference as a price movement would be inventing news, so this edition reports what was measured and nothing more. From October the comparison runs on one consistent basis and real movement becomes reportable.
Where the index is out of line with the forecourt
These 14 cars have a clean, readable German market, and the published figure sits outside it. Each row shows how many live offers ask more than the number currently on the car page. Their prices are unchanged this month, and each of those pages now says the figure is under review.

Method
Each car was queried on AutoScout24 Germany, scoped to its model and registration-year window, twice: once for the total offer count and once filtered to offers at or above the index's standing figure. The ratio places that figure inside the live asking distribution. Cars whose trim could not be separated from a much broader model population, and cars with fewer than ten offers in Germany, were carried unchanged rather than guessed.
